Head Start 假如这两个词开头的字母是大写，则连在一块是一个专有名词，指的是美国政府针对贫穷或弱智的儿童设立的一个教育项目：开端计划。

比如：

Many poor parents send their children to Head Start.

很多贫困家庭的父母将我们的孩子送去参加开端计划。

但假如head start是小写的，那样就是普通名词了，是指比別人早着手，或领先、 有利，即advance start or advantage。

比如：

In order to give his son a head start, the father decided^{1 to send him to a private kindergarten.}

为了让他的儿子赢在起跑线，他决定把儿子送到私立婴幼儿园去。
